Useful Downloads

Malware and viruses are still with us unfortunately and it seems likely to get more destructive if the latest malicious malware variants are anything to go by. You must have some protection on all Windows PC’s and here are some useful links to what I believe are vital applications to run on all computers.

AntiVirus:
Regular customers of mine know my opinions regarding many of the antivirus software that retailers foist upon their customers – Norton, McAfee and Trend Micro I consider the worst. Bloated programs that slow systems down, are painful to remove (they all have ‘tools’ on their websites to uninstall them – why? If you wrote good software you would never need them surely!

Of course, we all need to have antivirus software installed and my current recommendation is AVG – either the free or the full version which starts at around $50 per year. This is great value compared to many products. The link to buy this is also on the right). Another great product is Avast! Free Edition – however lately this one pops up messages everyday that can’t be turned off so I prefer AVG at the moment. Both free versions are ok for most users but for more security then using the paid for AVG is my current recommendation. I don’t believe the ‘security suites’ offered by AVG or Avast are really worth the extra expense – use a good anti-malware product like my next recommendation.

AntiMalware:
An effective antivirus program definately isn’t all you need though. Malware is prevalent on many websites and usually finds it’s way onto systems after an unsuspecting user clicks on what they believe is either a useful program/feature to install (like the dreaded toolbars) or they believe an advert is actually a real warning notice.

Malwarebytes for Home | Anti-Malware Premium | Free Trial Download

My recommendation and the main tool of choice to clean customers systems is this one – MalwareBytes AntiMalware (MBAM).

The free one (which is what the trial version reverts to after 14 days) is a great on-demand scanner to get rid of many malware problems – but the paid version is a winner and I’m recommending this to my customers as good value and an inexpensive purchase at around $35 for an annual licence or $55 for 2 years. Just click the advert to the right to purchase. If you need some help installing this, click here for full instructions.

Remote Assistance Solution:
Download TeamViewer – (get the full version for Windows) here.

Links to free solutions:

(Please remember that if you decide to buy a full version of any of the products I have recommended here, can I ask that you do this by clicking on the adverts to the right as I am an affiliate of both companies and get a small fee for referrals.)
